The West is not in decline. We are at the beginning of our expansion into the galaxy. The divinity of Western civilization is revealed in our relief of imagination and the story we make. Yet we still are unknown to ourselves. There has never been a philosophy to account for the good and evil of Western Man. This has a direct bearing on the future of artistic representation in the 21st century.

Western philosophy has ignored the most basic element of how the human mind operates. I have discovered this missing element. We do not do good or evil based on our supposed thinking; we perform good and evil based on the stories we accept of our human life. Story Theory, the subject of this text, is testable and can be proven by each man. Story Theory is occurring in each moment; yet passes unremarked by the most educated race on earth.

Consciousness is story. Any man that attempts to describe his consciousness, even in the first syllables, will be recounting a story of his consciousness. Consciousness equals story to infinity. Consciousness is story exponentially multiplied (C = s¥ ). There are no facts in consciousness; there is only communication with stories of consciousness. Story Theory is a self-demonstrating grid of eternal communication in being.

I focus my concept on the Latin word animus. Animus is the Latin word often used in philosophy to designate the soul of life in man, or human consciousness. However the root meaning of animus is “to have intention.” I believe that “intention” best captures the idea of human consciousness. I insist that no man can have consciousness without revealing an intention of his life; which is as much to say that he makes a story of his life. I have verified that each man's life reflects of a scenario of meaning, a direction of personality, or an identifiable intention of purpose. This concisely illustrates my thesis that consciousness is entirely a story-making phenomenon. I will explore this insight.
